Birthday Girl

Well…it happened.  Kitty turned 5!  We had a great day celebrating with her friends by jumping on inflatable bounce houses at Super Bounce, then we had dinner at a restaurant of Eva’s choosing – Wendy’s of course – then we munched on a lopsided birthday cake, courtesy of moi.  It didn’t look pretty but it tasted fantastic; layers of chocolate, chocolate chip cake with chocolate ganache and raspberry sauce.  YUM!  And we mustn't forget the kitty cupcakes that Eva and I made for her friends.  How divine.

Turning 5 means you really rake in the presents:  A light show projector from Aunt Cam, Play-Doh and a coloring book from Grandma Lisa, and cash-ola from my parents, which she used to purchase a Hei-Hei doll that screeches.  It’s not annoying at all.

Michael and I got her a new stuffed kitty since I will never allow a real one, magnetic blocks, a butterfly net, and Shimmer and Shine teenie genie pets.  Eva was in heaven.

She again insisted all day that she wasn’t 5 until she blew out her candles.  It was a long wait until nearly 7 in the evening.  But what a fun and exhausting day!

Happy Birthday, Eva!

Snow Fairy Princess

My friend cleaned out her garage and found her teenage daughter’s box of dress up clothes.  She gave them to Eva and since then we’ve been dressing up nearly every day.  The outfit that Eva has favored the most is one she calls her Snow Fairy Princess dress.  It was merely a Snow Princess until Eva added a wand and wings and now she’s the whole shebang.

We wear our Snow Fairy Princess dress around the house and out in public.  Michael loves the attention that strangers give us as we march behind the princess through the store.  Eva also adores the attention.

When we were heading to the mall one evening she said, “Everyone is going to think I look so beautiful.  You’ll see.”

She was right.

Humility is apparently not required if you’re a Snow Fairy Princess.

The 3rd First Day of School

Eva started preschool again today.  Yes, this is her 3rd year of preschool.  Yes, she’s much smarter and more mature than the other preschoolers.  Yes, I plan on spending my alone time watching TV.

Eva was so excited to finally be back in school.  She’s been counting the days down on her calendar for weeks.  Last night she prayed that she would have a great day at school and that she wouldn’t be bored during circle time.  (She tells me that circle time is boring because she has to sit still on the rug.  The nerve!)

She ran into my bedroom this morning and shouted, “I get to go to school today!”  Then she ate breakfast and got dressed faster than she ever has in her entire life; not one word of protest, not one moment of doddling.  She was very particular about what she wanted to wear and asked that I comb her hair into “angel hair.”  She was so excited that it made me excited for her.

She bolted up the walkway and that was that.  Another first day checked off the list.

When I picked her up after school Eva said that she was only a little bored during circle time and that she rocked at math.  “They kept trying to make it harder but I knew all the answers,” she said.

Knowing it all is her cross to bear.

All Growed Up

Notice anything different about my kitty?

She got her ears pierced!  I’ve been wanting to pierce Eva’s ears since she was born, but Michael thought she should make the decision on her own.  A couple of weeks ago she announced – completely on her own -  that she wanted to get her ears pierced.  My heart fluttered and Michael’s heart had an attack.  He thought she would be much older when she wanted earrings.  I’m afraid he’s in for a number of reality checks with this girl of ours.

She carefully chose out which earrings she wanted and landed on her birthstone.  This is fortuitous since her birthstone is pink and pink just happens to be her favorite color.

I prefaced this excursion with the expectation that this adventure would be painful but Eva was undeterred.  She wanted those earrings.

And she got ‘em!  Without any tears at all.  She happily collected her 2 lollipops and away we went.  As we left the store I asked if we should call Michael and tell him the big news.  Eva adamantly replied, “Don’t tell Daddy.  I want it to be a surprise so don’t call him.  Make sure you don’t tell him.  Capiche?”

Jeez.  Give a girl a couple of fake diamond earrings and she becomes a wise guy.

Note to self: remove all unmixed cement from the garage.

Name Change

I was getting Eva settled into bed and said, “Ok, Dexter, let’s get you tucked in.”

She replied, “Dexter is a boy’s name.  I have a different name now.”

“Oh,”  I said.  “So what’s your new name?”

“Princess Sparkle.  But you can call me Kitty for short.”

Allow me to introduce Princess Sparkle and her pet, Princess Fifi.

But you can call her Kitty.
