Wowza! 38!

I went ahead and turned 38 recently.  I usually am not bothered by getting older since my husband is much more ancient than I am and hits the bigger numbers long before I do - I’m just  a wee-lad in comparison.  But I must say that 38 gave me pause this year.  For a brief moment I felt old.  Then I remembered Michael  receives offers from AARP while I don’t, and I felt better about myself.

We decided to celebrate me NOT being old by staying overnight at an indoor water park.  Well, we didn’t stay overnight IN the water park, that would be weird and cold.  It was a hotel/water park called Great Wolf Lodge and we had a magnificent time.  It took a couple of hours to get there so naturally we had to stop to eat halfway there.  It was 10 AM so Wendy’s seemed like the logical choice.  Hey, it was my birthday.  Let me enjoy a frosty and a hamburger for brunch!

Michael and Eva love swimming while I am a lukewarm participant, but the park really was a lot of fun.  I was feeling young and vivacious zipping down the water slides and bobbing around in the wave pool – for approximately 1 hour.

Poor Eva and her geriatric parents.  I started to feel dizzy from the slides and Michael wrenched his back dismounting from the tube at the bottom of one slide.  We stayed for a total of 3 hours, which I felt was a grand accomplishment since I was shivering for the entire block of time.  We had a nice dinner, then ate snacks in the hotel room and watched TV while Eva jumped between the beds for a couple of hours.  Successful day.

The next day was my actual birthday, and of course, we had donuts for breakfast.  No one cares about their figure at 38 anyway.  Which is also why I powered through almost my entire birthday cake – only 2 pieces found the trash can days later.

Happy Birthday to me!

Autumn

It’s Fall so you know what that means: Pumpkin patch time!  We ventured out to our favorite patch to pick out the perfect pumpkins.  The weather was beautiful and we ran into our friends so it was a great day.

Close to the entrance was a food truck selling apple cider donuts, and just beyond that was a slide.  Eva raced to the slide while Michael couldn’t resist the smell of donuts and raced over to the food truck.  It was like being in Tijuana when my dad would sprint to the first taco stand once we were over the border, his explanation for stopping at the first one being, “I always stop at the first taco stand I see because…well…it smells good.”  Those smells will get you every time.

Fall also means playing in the leaves.  And we have plenty of leaves in our yard to accommodate.

Spooky Dinner

What’s Halloween without brains for dinner?

And what’s Halloween without pumpkins?

And what’s Halloween without skeletons?

Why, it’s just another ordinary Tuesday, that’s what.

Halloweener

Show me a guy who doesn’t like Halloween and I’ll show you a real jerk.  I am not one of those jerks.  I love Halloween.  I love it so much I’m actually sad it’s over.  The only thing keeping me from spiraling into the depths of depression is the bucket of candy that Eva scored.  And she scored!  3 full-size candy bars and lots of Kit Kats and Twix.  I count that as a win.  It helped that she Trick-or-Treated 3 times; at school, at the church Trunk-or-Treat, and around our neighborhood.  We really went for it this year.

Here’s my adorable fairy angel.

Don’t make the mistake of calling her an angel fairy.  You will be met with a brisk scolding from the little fairy angel.  I made the angel fairy mistake multiple times.  I don’t learn good.

The weather was beautiful, our friends were with us, and it was a successful evening.

Now quit bothering me – I must get back to eating all the fairy angel’s candy.

Happy Halloween!
